On 13 and 14 of June, 21 Japanese otosurgeons and 7 specialists in hearing and speech rehabilitation visited St. Petersburg. Their visit took place in the course of the Year of Japan in Russia and the Year of Russia in Japan.
The purpose of the visit was to participate in a two-day practical course on cochlear implantation and hearing-speech rehabilitation at the “St. Petersburg Research Institute of ENT”.
This was the first visit of Japanese doctors to Russia to share expertise in this field.
Vladislav Evgenievich Kuzovkov, the otosurgeon of the “St. Petersburg Research Institute of ENT” conducted cochlear implant surgery, broadcasted live from the operating theatre to the Japanese doctors in a conference room.
The “St. Petersburg Research Institute of ENT” specialists presented to the guests the assistance provided to children with hearing impairment at all stages: diagnostics, therapy, surgery, and subsequent rehabilitation. The “St. Petersburg Research Institute of ENT” is the only institution in Russia, offering the full range of treatment for hearing restoration. Especially Japanese doctors admired the program “I hear the world!” And the charming Usharik, developed by the specialists of the Institute together with the parents of children with hearing impairment with support of MED-EL.
